On September 28, 2022, Hurricane Ian made landfall and permanently changed the lives of those living in southwest Florida. It was my privilege to reach out on behalf of the Committee to Support and Defend to assist military families affected by the storm.
Nicola, an Army guard member, suffered warzone-like damage to her home. Her roof had significant damage, food was lost, clothes ruined, furniture destroyed, appliances damaged, and her car needed repairs. All of this while losing work due to the storm.
Adrian is a non-commissioned officer in the Army guard who is working hard to take care of his family. Already hit hard by inflation, his route to work was blocked due to hurricane flooding. He lost more than a week of pay, causing additional financial hardship.
Sabrina is a young soldier in the Guard. She and her fiancé’s places of employment were both flooded and closed for a time, leaving them without income. She struggled to get a cover on her roof and much-needed repairs. Time was of the essence since her water system was destroyed, and mold was growing in their home.
While there are so many more to help, the Committee has been able to provide assistance to these and other service members and veterans, thanks to the support of people like you.
Please consider joining the Committee to Support and Defend for just $17.75 per year or donating what you can to help us continue to serve veterans and their families.
While on active duty, we had each other’s backs. Now it’s time to continue that tradition. As a team, we can make a big difference in the wake of Hurricane Ian.
